Elena Borjabad

Elena Borjabad graduated as a Chemical Engineer from the University of Valladolid in 2002. Since 2001 she has worked in various areas of R&D in the field of energy production from biomass. After she joined CIEMAT in 2005 she worked in a number of different research groups, including the Biomass Unit, the Energy Recovery from Fuel and Waste Unit, and the Thermal Conversion Processes Unit, where she currently works. Elena has taken part in numerous Spanish and international R&D projects, with a focus on studying biomass combustion processes, measuring gaseous and particle emissions, and tackling problems related to slag formation and sintering in both pilot plants and industrial facilities. She has co-authored a number of articles for specialist international publications, has presented papers at conferences in Spain and abroad and has made a range of contributions in other media. Since 2019 she has been the head of the Thermal Conversion Processes Unit at CIEMAT’s CEDER Division.
